In recent years we have carried out extensive upgrading works to the Public Realm in Dumbarton Town Centre, including Phase 1 Dumbarton Gate, College Street, Risk Street, the associated Carparks & Wynds, and High Street Phases 2 and 3, improving the appearance of the various streets and spaces within Dumbarton Town Centre, in accordance with Dumbarton’s Public Realm Design Guide. We completed our maintenance commitments on the last of these projects in September 2008.

These works included the renewal of the various hard surfaces, including high quality natural stone to roads and footpaths, improving and extending car parks in and around the town centre, and implementing traffic restrictions within the central section of the High Street to control congestion, in response to various research and a public consultation of 2004.
Key to providing a brighter and enhanced town centre we substantially upgraded the street lighting system and refurbished the wynds and closes connecting pedestrians from the carparks to the High Street, and carried out builderswork refurbishment to two underpasses.
These works were funded by West Dunbartonshire Council, the former Scottish Enterprise Dunbartonshire, the Scottish Executive's Public Transport Fund and the European Regional Development Fund, and incorporated the highest quality of workmanship and materials as follows:-

The majority of these works were carried out in close proximity to the heart of the town centre and demanded close and successful liason with shopkeepers, bar and restaurant owners and the general public throughout.
The Principal Landscape Architect for these works provided feedback in accordance with our Investors in People, and Quality Management system requirements to confirm that their practice was “totally satisfied with the overall quality of product” and in respect of workmanship that Landscapes and Contracts Ltd is “One of the best we work with”

We are immensely proud that our staff and employees have played a significant role in the upgrading and regeneration of Paisley Town Centre’s Public Realm and wider areas, since 1995, and were the sponsors of the 2008 Paisley 10k fun run.
Paisley Abbey Public Realm of 1996 won a Bali award, and was the centre-piece of Paisley’s £12m Public Realm Programme on which our Brian MacAlister I. Eng.,M.I.C.E Contracts Manager, was the Engineer’s Representative, throughout. Brian MacAlister has a proven track record in this sector and has overseen all of our similar projects since joining our team in June 2005.
A significant proportion of our staff and Employees worked with Brian on Abbey Close and various other high quality works to Paisley’s Public Realm during this period, and the principles learned have helped make our Company what it is today, where around 40 full-time Landscapes and Contracts Ltd site employees undertake all Civils and Landscaping works on-site, ensuring that programmes are implemented to suit the project rather than the demands and requirements of hired-in subcontract labour.
Note that our considerations in respect of programming are based on restrictions imposed by public safety, businesses, shops, traffic and the general public in consultation with our various Clients.
Examples of our work in Renfrewshire, with approximate values -
Civic Amenity Sites, Erskine and Renfrew – Works comprised of site clearance, earthworks and rock breaking, and the construction of extensive 3m high retaining walls to extend the existing. Tarmacadam and concrete access roads and footpath networks constructed incorporating new lighting, CCTV and drainage systems, before softworks provided a high quality landscaped finish. All works were completed within a 26 week contract period.
