Landscapes and Contracts Ltd are committed to undertaking environmental improvement contracts with a Training Element, in partnership with our sister company L & C Training Initiative and other contributing partners.
Our staff have helped tailor and operate various programmes for delivering training to candidates of all age ranges; from 16-18 Skill Seekers, through 18-24 Tailored Pathways and New Deal (Waged and Employer options), to Adult 25+. Each scheme, which our staff have operated for Renfrewshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council, Scottish Enterprise, North Lanarkshire Council, Drumchapel Housing Co-operative and Kintry Housing Partnership has been a success, with better than average outcomes. Each of our Clients has been updated regularly throughout the progress of the contract works in respect of each individual’s performance, academic achievement and personal development.
Normally we would operate a Training Programme of 26 working weeks, tailoring the site works and training programmes to suit one another, i.e. when demolitions, down-takings and excavations are in progress, Trainees are normally off-site at college. When trades operations are in progress the Trainees’ time on site is maximised to give them the best experience possible. Training is tailored to suit where contracts are of a shorter duration.
Any new recruitment would be undertaken in conjunction with the appropriate local Job Centre and Client’s Representative.
We would comply with the Local Labour Clauses as detailed in the Tender Document.
Contracts set up specifically for training have in our experience, tended towards extended contract programmes, where compromises are made to quality by the work being carried out in full by trainees under one Supervisor. As an alternative to this approach, we would propose to have tradesmen on site to work with the trainees, ensuring quality of workmanship and compliance with the contract programme. Landscapes and Contracts Ltd’s management team have more that fifty years combined experience in delivering high quality landscaping projects to Clients on programme and on budget. Also, over the recent period we have successfully delivered training to candidates, helping a significant number to achieve successful outcomes and secure permanent jobs. We believe that many Training opportunities exist on our projects for the various categories of candidate. We will endeavour to work with all Clients to tailor and deliver the best possible Training solutions, at all times.
The Client is updated regularly throughout the progress of the contract works in respect of each individual’s performance, academic achievements and personal development. The Trainees attend a progress meeting as appropriate, where they are given the opportunity of expressing their views in respect of their input to the contract. In the past we have found this approach to be good for morale, making them see that they are an integral part of the Construction Team.
